RoS: Legacy

RoS: Legacy is a restored and updated version of one of the great classics of the battle royale genre, the legendary Rules of Survival. It was released in 2017 and reached over 200 million active players worldwide, but shut down its servers in 2022. Thanks to this new revision of the game, you can parachute down onto Ghillie Island once more.

First things first: create an account

In order to play RoS: Legacy, you'll need an account with Miare Labs, the studio behind the game. Creating an account is as simple as entering an email address and setting a secure password. You don't even have to verify the email address. Once this process is complete, you can launch the game and log in with your Miare Labs account. Before starting a game, check out the options to customize the controls and choose the optimal graphics settings for your device.

All game modes make a return

Anyone who played Rules of Survival in its pomp will instantly recognize its legendary first map: Ghillie, which comes pre-downloaded and ready for you to play. You also have the option to download the second map, The Flord. And, of course, you can choose to play solo, in a duo, or in a group of four or five players. You'll also find a series of special game modes, like Hero Clash, Death Race, Train, and ROStopia.

My experience with RoS: Legacy

At the height of its popularity, I played Rules of Survival for hours on end and, honestly, I was a bit sad when the game shut down its servers. Maybe that's why I was so pleased to see how RoS: Legacy has brought it back from the dead. While the gaming experience is not vastly different from PUBG Mobile or other traditional battle royales, that doesn't take away from the fact that it's still an immensely fun game.

The best and worst of RoS: Legacy

• What I like most about RoS: Legacy is being able to enjoy a straightforward, traditional battle royale. Huge maps + a hundred rivals + plenty of weapons = guaranteed fun.

• What I like least about RoS: Legacy is having to register in order to play. While verification isn't required, it's still a bit annoying.
